There are three main considerations to think about when picking your next pillow: sleeping position, firmness preference, and materials. There are some pillows that work for all three sleeping positions, but overall, each sleeping position needs something different when it comes to firmness and loft.

Back sleepers shout look for medium-firm pillows of around 3”-5” tall. This will keep your head in a neutral position and medium-firm pillows often provide a great balance of comfort and support. Side sleepers need a very tall pillow of around 5”-6” tall, and tend to do better with firm pillows. This will keep your head from craning downwards. Stomach sleepers need flat pillows, no taller than 3”, to keep their heads low.Materials also play a role in firmness, but generally the spectrum is wide.
