Apple cider vinegar has been used as a health food for a long time. Historical records of its use date back to 5000 BC.
Apple cider is made by first crushing apples and combining them with yeast. What this does is convert the sugar from the apples into alcohol. Bacteria are also added in order to ferment the alcohol into what is called acetic acid.
Acetic acid is one of the key ingredients in organic apple cider vinegar which gives many of the spouted health benefits.
Does apple cider vinegar help with weight loss?
Some of these are animal studies on mice and rats. I’m just making that clear because this doesn’t always mean it is the same for human beings.
Lowered insulin and blood sugar levels
Apple cider vinegar may lower blood sugar levels. Insulin levels also decreased which is important for dropping fat
Apple cider vinegar has also been shown to increase rats metabolic rate. When they were exposed to acetic acid they showed an increase of AMPK which is an enzyme tied to fat storage and the amount of sugar being produced by the liver
Your appetite is generally going to be one of the main determiners of how much weight you lose. Decreasing your caloric intake is obviously a big part of losing weight effectively which apple cider vinegar has been shown to do
Improved Gut Health
Apple cider has pectin which is good for promotion proper digestion.
Less Bad Cholesterol
Apple cider vinegar has been shown to increase bile production. This helps with breaking down cholesterol. Having excess triglyceride levels and cholesterol is dangerous and apple cider vinegar seems to decrease LDL cholesterol.
Apple cider vinegar is anti-bacterial and can kill off dangerous bacteria such as E.coli. Additionally it can be used to clean to help fight off pathogens.
The main takeaway is that, yes, apple cider vinegar can help you lose weight, but it’s not a magic cure by any means.
